Ah, summer beauty! Sunshine, fresh air, picnics, swimming, sweating… Summer presents a special challenge for looking your best, and for keeping your makeup on your face. Here are five products I won’t be leaving the house without until the return of sweater weather.
1. Anastasia Beverly Hills Lash Genius ($21, www.anastasiabeverlyhills.com) It’s marketed as a top coat that makes your favorite mascara sweat-proof and water resistant, but I use it as a primer before applying mascara. A word of caution, though: this stuff is like concrete, and no waterproof mascara is a good idea to wear every day. Frequent use can damage your lashes, so save it for pool dates and weddings.
2. Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray ($30, www.urbandecay.com) All Nighter keeps your makeup from melting, cracking, fading, and settling into lines while keeping it perfectly in place for up to 16 hours. The product description says it features “patented Temperature Control Technology” that “actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to keep foundation, eyeshadow, blush and concealer in place – even in hot and humid or cold and windy conditions.” I don’t know about that, but I know that if you use it before you go to a pool party, you will still have makeup on when you get home.
3. Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20, www.urbandecay.com) In addition to 24-hour crease free, vibrant color, Eyeshadow Primer Potion gives your eye makeup an extra layer of waterproof protection and goes on as smooth as silk.
4. Too-Faced The Secret To No Makeup Makeup Palette ($39, www.toofaced.com) This contour palette has a shimmer-type bronzer that gives a lovely dewy finish, along with a brightener, concealer and luminizer for a gorgeous summer glow without a bunch of added foundation weight.
5. Too-Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer ($20, www.toofaced.com) Lip Insurance gives you a little boost of hydration and dries quickly, and it will keep your favorite lip color locked in place through popsicles and makeout sessions alike.
