Are you a bride-to-be planning your big day? Welcome to the club—I am too; I as in Linzy, long-legged model/writer. Planning a wedding can be a very stressful and overwhelming ordeal. There are tons of details to figure out and everything just has to be perfect!

Time to take a deep breath.

Planning a wedding is a lot of work, but there are a few things to keep in mind that can help make it a much easier process. Planning should be a very special and fun time; don’t make it into a stress fest that makes you want to pull your hair out. Here are some tips I want to share from my wedding planning experience.

My first tip is to start planning as soon as possible. Allow yourself some time to be blissfully engaged, but make sure to start planning with more than enough time before the wedding. I recommend giving yourself at least nine months to plan, a year is probably ideal. Sometimes life happens and your timeline will have to shrink, but if you have the opportunity to plan ahead, definitely do it!

Next on the list is to make booking your venue top priority. Venues can book up a year or more in advance, so the first big thing to focus on needs to be finding and booking your venue. Do a lot of research and view at least three places. Once you know where you want to have your wedding and reception, book the date so you know it’s yours and you won’t have to fall back on plan b if the venue is already reserved.

If you want your wedding memories to last forever, it’s important to hire professionals to makes the day as perfect as possible. This means hiring a professional photographer, videographer, and makeup/hair artist. You can have Uncle Bob take photos and your sister to do makeup if you want, but I recommend hiring professionals for these jobs. They will help the day run smoothly and make you look and feel your best throughout your big day. You don’t want to look back on the images from your big day and be disappointed!

My last tip is to keep everything in perspective. Your wedding is a big day, but it shouldn’t make you miserable throughout the planning process. Think back on the weddings you have attended; what do you remember? It’s probably not the food, the flowers, or the décor. You remember the people you saw, how beautiful everyone looked, and how happy everyone was. It’s important to have your day be what you want, but at the end of the day, everyone is there to celebrate you and your happiness! Don’t let little details drive you crazy while making your wedding plans. If you feel overwhelmed or incredibly stressed, reach out to friends and family for help! There are bound to be a few people who would love to help make your big day everything you’ve dreamt of.

Next week, I’ll touch on what to expect when you hire a makeup artist for your wedding. There’s a lot to know, so make sure to come back and check it out!
